USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map (PHZM)

    The 2012 USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map (PHZM) is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual minimum winter temperature, divided into 10-degree F zones. For the first time, the map is available as an interactive GIS-based map, for which a broadband Internet connection is recommended, and as static images for those with slower Internet access. Users may also simply type in a ZIP Code and find the hardiness zone for that area. No posters of the USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map have been printed. But state, regional, and national images of the map can be downloaded and printed in a variety of sizes and resolutions.

    USDA ARS National Rhizobium Germplasm Collection

      Our mission is to support application of low-input sustainable agriculture by: Providing, to the best of our ability, technical information about rhizobia, their preservation, and cultural and symbiotic characteristics; Acquiring and preserving the nitrogen-fixing bacterial symbionts of leguminous plants with the goal of maintaining widest possible genetic diversity; Maintaining quality control of new and existing germplasm by evaluation of microbiological purity and by examination of nodulation of the original trap host plant; Distributing cultures to the public and private sectors without charge for these services; Developing or adapting techniques in molecular biology for the determination of genetic diversity of rhizobia, to investigate interactions with their host plants and to identify novel characteristics; Acquiring, maintaining, evaluating quality, and distributing type strains for all the different taxa of nitrogen-fixing legume symbionts; Participating in the UNESCO program.

      Data from: Underestimation of N2O emissions in a comparison of the DayCent, DNDC, and EPIC 1 models

        Process-based models are increasingly used to study mass and energy fluxes from agro-ecosystems, including nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from agricultural fields. This data set is the output of three process-based models – DayCent, DNDC, and EPIC – which were used to simulate fluxes of N2O from dairy farm soils. The individual models' output and the ensemble mean output were evaluated against field observations from two agricultural research stations in Arlington, WI and Marshfield, WI. These sites utilize cropping systems and nitrogen fertilizer management strategies common to Midwest dairy farms.

        Musa Germplasm Information System

          The Musa Germplasm Information System (MGIS) contains key information on Musa germplasm diversity, including passport data, botanical classification, morpho-taxonomic descriptors, molecular studies, plant photographs and GIS information on 4616 accessions managed in 21 collections around the world, making it the most extensive source of information on banana genetic resources.

          Data from: Comparative farm-gate life cycle assessment of oilseed feedstocks in the Northern Great plains

            This MS Word document contains the oilseed feedstock farm-gate model inventories, results, and uncertainty analyses for the Northern Great Plains discussed in Moeller et. al 2017. Analysis was conducted using IPCC GHG standardized emissions. Methodology is detailed in the associated publication (doi: 10.1007/s41247-017-0030-3). The supplementary information contains the names of the ecoinvent inventories; oilseed yield, seeding rates, and fertilization rates per USDA crop management zone (CMZ); climate change, freshwater eutrophication, and marine eutrophication percent contributions ReCiPe results per CMZ; Monte Carlo uncertainty results per CMZ; and farm-gate energy balance analysis results per CMZ.

            Plant Variety Protection Office - Scanned Certificates

              This dataset provides the scans of issued certificates for a variety of plants. If you know the certificate number or applicant name simply enter the information in the search box. For certificates issued between 1970 and 1999, add two zeroes in front of the 7-digit number. Alternatively, you can search by selecting a crop from the list.

              AMIS Market Database

                Statistics at a Glance provides summary tables of the main data items currently covered by AMIS (Agricultural Market Information System). There are production, supply, utilization, trade and closing stocks. Users can select a country on the world map and specify their request by selecting one of the four AMIS crops: wheat, maize, rice, or soybeans. Alternatively, users can display aggregate values for total cereals and coarse grains.

                NASS Data Visualization

                  NASS Data Visualization provides a dynamic web query interface supporting searches by Commodity (e.g. Cotton, Corn, Farms & Land, Grapefruit, Hogs, Oranges, Soybeans, Wheat), Statistic type (automatically refreshed based upon choice of Commodity - e.g. Inventory, Head, Acres Planted, Acres Harvested, Production, Yield) to generate chart, table, and map visualizations by year (2001-2016), as well as a link to download the resulting data in CSV format compatible for updating databases and spreadsheets.

                  NASS - Quick Stats

                    The Quick Stats Database is the most comprehensive tool for accessing agricultural data published by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). It allows you to customize your query by commodity, location, or time period. You can then visualize the data on a map, manipulate and export the results as an output file compatible for updating databases and spreadsheets, or save a link for future use. Quick Stats contains official published aggregate estimates related to U.S. agricultural production. County level data are also available via Quick Stats.
