Summarized responses from USDA Agriculture Innovation Strategy 2020 Request for Information Version 2

In support of its Agriculture Innovation Agenda (AIA) USDA collected unstructured text feedback through a Request for Information (RFI) on the most important innovation opportunities for the next era of agriculture to be addressed in the near and long term. Responses were grouped into several focus areas including commodity crops, specialty crops, livestock, aquaculture, forestry, and farming, general to feed a dashboard for exploration.

Global Land Analysis & Discovery (GLAD) Global Cropland Extent

This study utilized 250m MODIS (MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) data to map global production cropland extent. A set of multi-year MODIS metrics incorporating four MODIS land bands, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and thermal data was employed to depict cropland phenology over the period 2000-2008. The probability and discrete cropland/non-cropland data are available for download by MODIS tile at the full ~250m resolution or as global mosaics at ~1km resolution.

        Wind Erosion Prediction System (WEPS)

This site provides access to the WEPS software version used for official purposes by NRCS field offices and Technical Service providers. NRCS developed and maintains the components of the WEPS Databases and information on this site. The USDA-Agricultural Research Service is the lead agency for developing the science in the WEPS model and the model interface. WEPS predicts many forms of soil erosion by wind such as saltation-creep and suspension including PM-10.

NRCS Regional Conservation Partnership Program - Western Waters

Noteworthy for its agricultural productivity, ecological diversity, and complexity, the Bay Delta and Columbia River Basin is one of the largest and most complex water delivery systems in the nation. The Sacramento River and San Joaquin River meet in the Delta, which provides water to one of the most significant estuary ecosystems in the United States and provides drinking water to 25 million Californians. The Bay Delta offers habitat to 55 species of fish and 750 species of plants and wildlife. This dataset includes a printer-friendly CCA map and shapefiles for GIS.

NRCS Regional Conservation Partnership Program - RCPP Critical Conservation Areas

Critical Conservation Areas (CCAs) are designated by the Secretary of Agriculture and represent an opportunity for many stakeholders to come together at a regional level to address common natural resource goals while maintaining or improving agricultural productivity. Partners, working closely with producers and communities, define and propose projects that will achieve regional natural resource goals while also meeting complementary local conservation priorities.
