This database is structured around individual farm fields as the unit of record, providing a framework that enables land use to be assessed at the same scale that agricultural land uses shift, at an annual time step, and at the scale at which conservation practices are implemented. It is beneficial to document agricultural land cover and its rates of change to understand responses of watershed, landscape, and agroecosystem processes to changes in land use and to identify viable approaches that can be customized for local adoption and mitigate environmental impacts from agricultural production.
Soybean Aphids per Plant Among Soybean Lines Containing Various Rag Genes
The files presented here report the number of soybean aphids on soybean lines that differed in the *Rag* genes they contained. Tests were conducted separately against two soybean aphid colonies, which were maintained on soybean plants at North Central Agricultural Research Laboratory (NCARL), USDA-ARS, Brookings, South Dakota, USA.

Operational Tillage Information System (OpTIS) tillage, residue, and soil health practice dataset
CTIC has partnered with Applied GeoSolutions and The Nature Conservancy on the development, testing and application of the Operational Tillage Information System (OpTIS), an automated system to map tillage, residue cover, winter cover, and soil health practices using remote sensing data. While OpTIS calculations are performed at the farm-field scale using publicly available data, the privacy of individual producers is fully protected by reporting only spatially-aggregated results at regional and watershed scales. OpTIS-based data are currently available for the years 2005 through 2018 for the US Corn Belt, including all of Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa, as well as parts of: Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) cultivars mean annual forage yield (US Ton ac-1) from Northeast USA and Ontario (Canada) from 1995 to 2013
Database of forage yield for 679 alfalfa cultivars from 1060 public trials conducted between 1995 and 2013, comprising 86 locations in 11 US states (Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin) and one Canadian province (Ontario). Includes 28,070 observations, with an observation defined as a cultivar total annual forage yield mean across three to eight replicates per trial-year. Dataset includes Years 1 (establishment year) through 4 to 6 (depending on location and year).
Uniform Soybean Tests, Northern Region
The Uniform Soybean Tests, Northern Region, in place since 1941, evaluate yield, disease resistance, and quality traits of public breeding lines from northern states of the USA and Canadian provinces. The annual reports which compile the test results (PDF format) are available, and new reports are added annually.
Shawnee National Forest Geospatial Data
GIS data is available on the Forest’s FTP site in the form of “shape files” or layers and is available free for downloading. To utilize these data layers you will need a program that uses the Geographic Information System (GIS) such as ESRI’s ArcMap, ArcView or the free map reading program ArcGIS Explorer. ArcGIS Explorer has tools that let you zoom in/out, print the map, and query data. It also has map tips to identify features, and a help menu. Included is a list of GIS data files available for the Shawnee National Forest. These GIS data files are updated on a continuing basis.
ARS Water Database
The ARS Water Data Base is a collection of precipitation and streamflow data from small agricultural watersheds in the United States. This national archive of variable time-series readings for precipitation and runoff contains sufficient detail to reconstruct storm hydrographs and hyetographs. There are currently about 14,000 station years of data stored in the data base. Watersheds used as study areas range from 0.2 hectare (0.5 acres) to 12,400 square kilometers (4,786 square miles). Raingage networks range from one station per watershed to over 200 stations. The period of record for individual watersheds vary from 1 to 50 years. Some watersheds have been in continuous operation since the mid 1930's.
Agricultural Research Service Culture Collection (NRRL - Northern Regional Research Laboratory) Database
The ARS Culture Collection is one of the largest public collections of microorganisms in the world, containing approximately 93,000 strains of bacteria and fungi. The collection is split into subcollections of molds, prokaryotes, and yeasts. In addition, the online catalog is searchable by genus, species, subvar type, and subspecies.
