Water Resources of the United States

Water is one of six science mission areas of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Water's mission is to collect and disseminate reliable, impartial, and timely information that is needed to understand the Nation's water resources. This database contains downloadable water-related spatial data files for exploration and analysis.

Northern Region (Region 1) Geospatial Data

The Northern Region (R1) of the U.S. Forest Service uses ArcGIS Online to share maps, data, and applications for use by other federal agencies, partners, and the public. This gallery displays some of the web map applications developed by the Region and our Forests.

Rocky Mountain Region (Region 2) Geospatial Data

Our geographic area of responsibility covers Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. The datasets presented here are derived from the USFS Land Status Records System (LSRS) and the USFS infrastructure database (Infra), and other current projects of a region wide nature, then processed using ArcMap and Google™ Earth Pro.

Pacific Southwest Region (Region 5) Geospatial Data

The Pacific Southwest Region has geospatial datasets available for download from this website. These datasets are zipped personal or file geodatabases created using ESRI ArcGis 10.0 software. Additional descriptive information as well as data steward contact information, for each geodatabase, can be found under the metadata link.

Intermountain Region (Region 4) Geospatial Data

The GIS datasets available from this site are provided in ESRI .shp. All data available for download uses the current National ADS Standard codes. Many of the data files have also been zipped for compression. Each zipped file will contain ADS boundary and damage layers, and ADS GIS Handbooks and appendices.

            Shawnee National Forest Geospatial Data

GIS data is available on the Forest’s FTP site in the form of “shape files” or layers and is available free for downloading. To utilize these data layers you will need a program that uses the Geographic Information System (GIS) such as ESRI’s ArcMap, ArcView or the free map reading program ArcGIS Explorer. ArcGIS Explorer has tools that let you zoom in/out, print the map, and query data. It also has map tips to identify features, and a help menu. Included is a list of GIS data files available for the Shawnee National Forest. These GIS data files are updated on a continuing basis.

              Monongahela National Forest Geospatial Data

Selected geospatial data that encompass the Monongahela National Forest are available for download from this page. A link to the FGDC-compliant metadata is provided for each dataset.

                LANDFIRE

LANDFIRE (LF), Landscape Fire and Resource Management Planning Tools, is a shared program between the wildland fire management programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service and U.S. Department of the Interior, providing landscape scale geo-spatial products to support cross-boundary planning, management, and operations. LANDFIRE is a program that provides over 20 national geo-spatial layers (e.g. vegetation, fuel, disturbance, etc.), databases, and ecological models that are available to the public for the US and insular areas.

                  BrAPI

The Breeding API (BrAPI) Project is an effort to create a RESTful specification to enable interoperability among plant breeding databases. The Breeding API specifies a standard interface for plant phenotype/genotype databases to serve their data to crop breeding applications. It is a shared, open API, to be used by all data providers and data consumers who wish to participate.
