Long Term Ecological Research (LTER), Jornada Basin Data Catalog

    This dataset links to the Jornada data homepage, which links to 153 individual datasets. Those datasets can then be searched based on Title, Keyword, or Investigator. The Jornada Basin Long Term Ecological Research Program (JRN LTER) has been investigating desertification processes since 1982.

    Data from: A checklist of South Dakota bumble bees (Hymenoptera: Apidae)

      Several bumble bee species (Bombus Latreille) are declining and efforts to conserve populations will be strengthened by an improved knowledge of their geographic distribution. Knowledge gaps exist, however, especially in central portions of North America. Here we report 29 species of bumble bees from South Dakota in the north-central USA, based on 130 years of records from 1891 to 2021.

      Data from: Pasture dragging fails to reliably suppress the emergence of horn flies (Haematobia irritans) and face flies (Musca autumnalis) from dung pats in a Mid-Atlantic North American climate

        In order to determine if pasture dragging suppresses the emergence of horn flies (Haematobia irritans) and face flies (Musca autumnalis) from dung pats in a Mid-Atlantic North American climate, bovine dung pats were spread with pasture drag or plaster knife and covered with emergence traps, and emerging flies quantified.

        WISDEM

          WISDEM simulates the variation in multi-species weed populations over time in response to crop rotation, tillage system, and specific weed management tactics and the consequent crop yield loss due to weed competition. Population dynamics of individual weed species are predicted from a limited number of parameters that can be derived from literature sources and expert opinion.

          Resampling Validation of Sample Plans (RVSP)

            Sets of tools for sample plan evaluation originally released in 1997, these Monte Carlo simulations can be used to evaluate sampling models during the developmental phase; however, they may not be adequate for testing model validity and performance under field conditions. This is primarily due to the assumption of an underlying statistical distribution (e.g., negative-binomial, normal) which may not adequately represent the actual distributions of insects in all instances. Here we present a method in which actual field data is resampled to evaluate sample plan performance. We originally developed DOS-based computer software for this purpose.
